How to Upgrade Your Builder Grade Entryway in a New Home

So you've bought a new home! Congratulations! Now what? Well, unless you've paid extra for frills and add-ins, you likely have a lot of bare walls. You have a blank slate, and the possibilities are endless (at least as endless as your budget allows.) While that is the current situation, remember that Home takes time. It doesn't have to be perfect from the start. Sometimes it's best to feel out your space and then make changes. This is the exact situation I had for this entryway. Except it was my bestie's house. For months we talked about ways to decorate her home and she finally gave me a chance to upgrade her bare entryway into an inviting and functional space. Take a look at how I got it done.

Supplies:

The paint color used is the same as what was originally there from the builder except that the sheen was changed from flat to Semi-Gloss. Specifically, I used Sherwin WIlliams -Infinity paint in Incredible White (linked above). Due to this area being high traffic and high touch, that was the best option for clean-up and durability.

Differences in price on a project of this type depend on how many of the tools you have on hand, the size of your entryway/project area, accurate cuts, and ceiling height. To minimize waste, measure several times and cut once. Also, until you are more comfortable cutting, make your cuts a tiny bit long just to ensure you aren't short.

This project is completely doable for a bold beginner. With time and patience, it can be a beautiful upgrade to any space.
