A carnival with popcorn, a giant bear, brushed nickel hardware, free tile, and a design that almost didnt happen at all. So much happened that went wrong, I’m honestly happy it wasn’t worse.
Going into the space, I had plans for a serene retreat with layers of textures and wood tones to complement the floors, and beachy blues that show right outside the windows of this beautiful beach house. Unfortunately, we only got about 50% there.
The carnival was fun despite the chilly and heavy winds on the pier. Our team won free tile and lost our gold hardware to a switch in the game for nickel! The popcorn you saw me chewing on with Alison was stale, and kettle corn flavored. Not freshly popped! If you know me, you know I love fresh popcorn so this was such a disappointment. Either way, we left there with free tile, nickel hardware and an extra carpenter for a day. With such a tight timeline, and all the tile we had to install, the carpenter was a welcome helping hand.
Getting into the space, we had so many decisions to make. We had a locked door right next to an hvac system that sat right in the middle of our original plans for the bathroom renovation. To move the HVAC unit, the cost was $11,000! Not including the plumbing and electrical changes that needed to happen. Brandon and I spent a good amount of time planning out the bathroom layout that we ended up with. It wasn’t our first choice, but we had to consider the budget because the rest of the house still needed work.
Our budget was so tight, decor was purchased last minute and rushing in those last 2 hours caused so many problems. Have you ever assembled a king sized bed in 20 minutes?! Well I can say that I have. Brandon had to spend a good bit of the time finishing up tile in the shower floor and all other decor and design was up to me to complete.
That said, many things didn’t make it in the room. The plan for building nightstands fell through and my back up options didn’t arrive in time. Unfortunately there was hardware, decor and a beautiful tile that should have been installed that never even made it upstairs.
It wasn’t all bad though! Although I struggled with the faux grass cloth wallpaper, I love the color and texture it added to the space. The pressure really got to me because I’ve installed wallpaper in the past and never had this much trouble! The juju hat on the wall was a beautiful touch of texture and the lamps were a beautiful find from a local store in the area. The shower tile is a beautiful deep blue that looks so good with the warm wood floors and the herringbone vanity fit well with the huge wood framed mirror. And the tub! I’m 5’8” and had space in there to sit and move around comfortably.
We didn’t win this space and if I’m honest, I didn’t expect us to. We are looking forward to next week in the living room for another chance at a win!
Secrets Revealed:
In the primary we had the option to add mini split units upstairs as a more cost effective way to have cool air throughout, but agreed that those wall units all over would affect the overall look of the house in a not so great way.
We added a closet to the room that was never there before. More storage is never a problem in my book. More on that later!
The door handles were lost! I had them in one place and they disappeared and I couldn’t spend the time searching for them. Again, it was a tough one.
