This bench has been months in the making. Not because it was difficult or tedious, but because I put the project on hold while life happened. I actually crafted the bench in my hometown and stained it back in VA where I live. I was inspired by a table crafted by another fellow Content Creator who beautifully crafted a similar style table. Check out Janelle's table here.
This old house of mine is small, and so are the rooms in comparison to the size of most homes built these days. I don't mind it so much because it forces me to be intentional about what I buy and keep. Not so long ago, I got rid of a wardrobe that I thrifted and flipped because it was too bulky for the space. This new bench now sits where that once was.
I chose to build this bench for a few reasons. First, this space in the bedroom needed some piece of furniture because it was bare. Secondly, I wanted the furniture piece to have some type of function. Function is always important because the space is small. Remember my drawers build under the stairs? All about function. Thirdly, I thought it would be nice to have a seating option for putting on shoes. I especially like that the bench adds some warmth with the stain color in this very blue room. Take a look at some pictures below of the finished space. Would you try this build?
Once I had the bench in place, I knew I needed some wall art to make the space complete. I'm still discovering my design style, and so I'm trying different things. Adding color and texture make me feel good in any space. Going with that feeling, I incorporated some beautiful framed prints, added curtains, a pillow and a basket. Finally, I have completed this corner of this bedroom.
P.S. Yes, I've just completed a corner. This space has a tricky closet that I'm still not up to conquering yet. Stay tuned for that. In the distant future. In the meantime, enjoy this look at the bench!
It really fits the corner perfectly.
